Hoy
salud a Dios.
Tour around Siauliai
Today
2nd May we went on a tour around Siauliai, the fourth largest
Lithuanian city and the oldest of the four. The name of the city comes
from the Lithuanian word for the sun to which many monuments are
dedicated and the city has this year celebrated their anniversary of 780
years of independence. Next, we went to the Town hall where we met the
Mayor. We visited the Monastery and the Hill of Crosses where an
estimated 100,000 crosses or more have been left as petitions to God.
Following that we visted the Cathedral of the city dedicated to St.
Peter and St. Paul and built in 1625.
After that, we went to school where we were given an amazing welcome by students and teachers. We could enjoy traditional dances and we had the chance to taste the typical Lithuanian food. We went on a tour around the school and later, we carried out a workshop of Lithuanian language and History. All of us enjoyed it a lot and finally, students left with their families and we came back to the hotel to rest.
